Plantin: Identify, get care and grow healthy plants.
It might not save the world but it does save your plants. Even with the best intentions, keeping plants alive is hard. Despite doing all the mandatory things - water, sunlight, nice big pot - my babies are still not thriving. Is it just me?
For help, I turned to the mobile app Plantin, which aims to make plant care easier, more enjoyable and successful. Once I saw it had a feature that scans your plants to identify and detect diseases - I had to at least try it.
First target was the wilting plant on my window ledge at home, which the scan correctly identified. Then I put it to the test on the pots in the office and it gave me names for those too - although as I’m evidently not a plant expert, it could be a load of BS. But as its machine learning model is trained on over 16,000 species of plants, there’s a good chance it’s highly accurate.
Once Plantin has identified your plant, it gets straight to the root of the problem. So from scanning the leaves, it could tell that I had overwatered my plant. I didn’t know there was such a thing but as of now it’s ’dry Feb’ for the pots.
Then rather than judging the owner for their lack of green fingers, Plantin gives a personalised plant care plan with steps outlining how to help your ailing plants recover. Sending gentle reminders too, to help us be the best plant carers we can be.
It also gives practical explanations, cool facts and tips to build knowledge and see rapid results. And just like I’m the new house plant expert!
It does come at a cost though … I tried it out on the free three-day trial but then you need to switch to a weekly subscription for $7.99, or monthly $19.99 and yearly $49.99. This plant TLC doesn’t come cheap but your pots will thank you for it.
